Our team recently supported an exciting project for an oil and gas organisation in the UK. Working to a tight project deadline, our team designed and manufactured bespoke small-bore duplex pipework for a highly specialised one-sided phased array (PA) inspection project.
The challenge
Our client approached us with the challenge of manufacturing six 1” SCH 80 small-bore duplex pipework with complex flaws implanted for a specialised one-sided PA inspection project in the North Sea.
The project aimed to validate small-bore duplex pipework, which involved difficult geometries and materials, ensuring the integrity of pipework in critical oil and gas operations.
With a two-week timeframe and limited materials at our disposal, meticulous planning was essential to ensure we could obtain the correct materials to meet the project requirements and schedule.
Our approach
Priding ourselves for innovative solutions to complex projects, here’s how we achieved success for this project:
- Liaised with the client to determine and agree full project requirements
- Quickly sourced the necessary materials to prevent delays
- Promptly finalised the flaw design and configuration
- Our expert welders precisely implanted the flaws in the agreed locations
- Thorough examination of the pipework, including penetrant and ultrasonic inspection of the welds and mechanical inspection of flaws, to ensure it met all quality criteria
What we delivered:
Industry | Oil & Gas |
Specimens | Three double-welded 1” SCH 80 small-bore duplex pipework |
Flaws | Critical inspection for flaw detection and validation |
Material | Duplex stainless steel |
Use | Ensuring the integrity of pipework in critical oil and gas operations |
Method | One-sided phased array (PA) inspection |

Delivering critical support
From initial enquiry, we were able to complete the project within 10 days, enabling our client to meet their validation deadlines. Our support was crucial in ensuring the client’s operations remained on track.
By delivering high-quality, specialised pipework in a short timeframe, we helped them avoid delays and stay within their project schedule. Our proactive collaboration ensured they met the required industry standards for inspection accuracy, which was especially important given the complex challenges of working in the North Sea environment.
This project not only demonstrates our ability to meet tight deadlines but also showcases our commitment to delivering high-quality, tailored solutions. We’re excited to continue this productive partnership and tackle future challenges with the same dedication.
